These features use the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) programming interface, which the documentation says only works on Windows ME and XP but I have not tested them on other than XP yet.
There are two types of source from which pictures can be taken; Streaming Video which is low resolution typically 320x240 or 640x480 pixels and is provided by Webcams as well as more sophisticated cameras; and Still Images which are provided by cameras with more pixels. Note some cameras will not behave like 'Computer Cameras' they will behave like an external disk drive only, other devices can be used in either way depending on a menu setting in the camera itself. CZ will not work with the 'External Drive' variety of cameras at the moment.
To start taking pictures use the three items on the 'Acquire Image' sub menu of the File menu.
Start with this command, it will clear any existing stack and present you with a File Selector dialog, choose a folder and a prefix for the names of the files to contain the pictures. Note do not include a file extension, all Still Images are saved as .bmp files and Streaming Video frames are saved as .jpg files. CombineZM has a temporary folder which it uses by default if you do not provide one, it is located in the same folder as CombineZM.exe.
Next you need to choose the camera to use, I sometimes have three connected. Select Source brings up another dialog listing the devices connected to your computer. Notice after a device name there will be an indication of the type of device it is (video) or (still). If you wish to use a webcam, or get low rez pictures quickly from your camera double click on the appropriate (video) device. If you wish to shoot High rez pictures, and you see one, doubleclick on the appropriate (video) device this will then provide a preview before you take your pictures. To take Still Images you must select a (still) device by double clicking on it's icon. Remember to use Still Images with Movie preview you must visit the Select Source menu item TWICE once for a (video) device and again for the corresponding (still) device.
CombineZM remembers the last camera you used so if you only use one, in the same socket you may not need to do this step every time.
F4 performs this function also. This function generates a Video Preview for focusing etc, it is the full window size but is usually a low rezolution image stretched to this size.
Finally you are ready to start shooting. On selecting 'Get Image{s}' you should see a large preview (if a (video) device is selected) on top of which is a small dialog box. Clicking on Take Picture will do just that, and load a copy of it into CombineZM and save a copy to disk. Finish ends the session, but you can continue from where you left off by selecting Get Image(s) again.
You can also take several pictures automatically by using Macros.
Remember to set your camera up appropriately before starting.
Do Not Disconnect your Camera while working.
