There are three possible views: the whole picture/frame stretched or shrunk to fit into the window; a one pixel in the picture to one on the screen view; and a magnified view of the selected rectangle, this might not be available if the rectangle selected will not fit into the window at a one to one scale or greater. You can cycle through the available views by pressing the Right Button. Each view has it's special characteristics and uses as detailed below.
When you first load a stack this view is active, you will see the whole of an image with a border around it and a dotted line around the edges. The dotted box indicates the Active Rectangle, functions on the Rectangle menu and others like Save Rectangle As and Make Movie restrict themselves to the inside of this rectangle. Also filling, painting, deleting and fixing actions using the mouse and 'C' are restricted to this area. You can alter the size of the rectangle by pointing at a corner of the desired box then holding the left mouse button down and dragging to the diagonally oposite corner before releasing the button. Repeated pressing of 'A' presents you with various sizes of rectangle, the whole image, the originally loaded size, a suggested 'clean' rectangle, and any user defined rectangle as described above. Drawing with the mouse is not allowed in this mode, the same action selects rectangles instead.
If the whole picture will not fit into this view scroll bars will appear so all of the image is reachable. Alternatively Home takes you to the upper left corner, End to the lower right, Page Up and Page Down move up and down in large steps, and the same two keys with Shift move left and right. In this view selecting a rectangle takes you immediately to a Magnified View of it. This view represents every pixel in an image with one on the screen, pixels are not lost as in Full View which shrinks wnhen necessary to make the whole visible. Again drawing is not allowed for the same reason as above.
This is only available if it can display the whole of the Active Rectangle. Pixels in an image may be represented by one or more on the screen, this makes it easier to be more precise when editing at the pixel level. All of the drawing, fixing and deleting tools are available here. One thing to note is that the image may be distorted, the Active Rectangle is stretched indipendantly in the X and Y directions to take maximum advantage of the available space in the window, the result is that the pixels may not be szquare.
